Happiness is a lifestyle choice. You may think that you are the victim of circumstance, that you have no control over how happy you feel. You’re wrong. Being happy is about choosing an outlook. An optimistic outlook will protect you from the stress and strains of life. Being happy is about accepting your situation. No matter how bad your life seems right now you can take comfort in the knowledge that life is constantly changing. You cannot be miserable forever. Having an outlook like this is actually beneficial for your health. Stress is a major contributing factor in cases of heart disease and cancer.

Another way to live healthy is to express your feelings. The resentment you may feel if you don’t express yourself is another form of mental stress so you must tell people what you feel. You don’t have to apologise for the way you feel, so don’t be afraid to say what’s on your mind. People find his kind of honesty endearing. If you feel you may hurt someone else’s feelings, just take a moment to think of how you can express your thoughts without causing anyone harm.

Happiness is inside everyone. It is your personal responsibility to live happy. How do I become happy? It’s very simple. Decide to be a happy person. Abraham Lincoln observed that people choose how happy the are, they choose how optimistic their outlook is. There are several ways to influence your outlook.

Make sure to manage your time. Time is the only thing you can’t get back, so write down what you want to do, and how you can go about doing them. Time management skills will give you a sense of purpose and will keep you living productively. Spend time learning new things. Improving as a person will keep depressing thoughts out of your mind as you will constantly be challenged. Learning new things will also give you exciting possibilities for the future.

Much of the information we get in our media is negative. It is exciting, dramatic, but it will stress you out. That is what it is designed to do. So regulate how much news you get. A spiritual connection is soothing to the mind. Embracing spirituality in some form can bring about a clarity of thought and feeling of peace. Managing your time is an important way to stay focused and avoid boredom and depression. The basics of time management requires setting goals for yourself. Schedule your day and prioritise your activities so you spend your time most productively doing the things you want. Achieving goals will give you a great feeling of satisfaction, so do not be afraid of a challenge.

To keep productive make sure to learn something every day. Improving yourself will give you better opportunities in life and will challenge you to strive for better things. This is a healthy ambition and will keep your mind occupied. Broadening your horizons with learning will put your situation in perspective. Developing a spiritual life will give you inner peace, so look into the different religions and see if any speak to you. They represent a powerful need in the human psyche and you cannot avoid the need for faith in something. Joining a local church will give you the spiritual support you need to be content with your life.

Finally remember to laugh. Laughter is an excellent way to relieve tension that may stem from drama in your life. It will distance your involvement in your crisis and give you a better view of what is going on. Remember to laugh and apply these principles to your life every day. Living happy is an active process, so never stop learning and you’ll always have a smile on your face.
