Consciousness can defined as the way in which an individual perceives their inner and external environments. Our inner environment consists of our thoughts, feelings and emotions. These are all current feelings that affect our reactions and decisions made in our external environments. Our external environment can also consist of our workplace, relationships and outer surroundings.

Have you ever noticed that someone who feels very chaotic or disorganized inside will create a chaotic environment on the outside? Someone who is feeling disorganized emotionally may have a workspace that reflects the inner feelings. Pens and pencils may be laying everywhere, papers may be in disheveled piles and it always seems as if this individual can never find anything. This is a sign of the individual’s inner feelings showing on the outside.

There are other people who seem to have this great sense of inner peace. It seems as if the inner chaos has been erased and this individual is in control, organized and has a feeling of peace that surrounds them. This is the type of person that understands and has developed their consciousness.

It is very important to develop a higher state of consciousness. One must understand their thoughts, feelings and emotions. Once someone understands how they feel then that person gains a clearer perspective on their life. A sense of clarity will overcome the individual and allow the individual to perceive areas that may need to be changed.

Each of us must change a part of our personality or attitude at some point in time to have a rewarding and successful life. An individual who is bouncing from career to career or relationship to relationship must stop and evaluate their state of consciousness.

If an individual never takes the time to look within then their inner self will begin to deteriorate. We must be willing to maintain our inner environment as well as our outer environment. As someone cleans their house, they must be willing to dust the cobwebs from within.

In order to develop consciousness an individual can take a number of healthy and rewarding steps. The first step is to start a consciousness journal. By writing down inner feelings and reactions, an individual is able to gain perspective on their life from many different angles. This is important in order to make healthy and clear decisions.

The next step to developing effective consciousness is to talk with a friend or relative who you trust. Ask that friend or relative to evaluate your actions and then see how you could have made better decisions. This will allow you to make better decisions in the future.

Next, make a life plan. List a number of goals that you wish to achieve and then write out a plan that will allow you to achieve your goals. Once you have, your plan made it is very important to stick with the steps on your plan.

During the course of developing the consciousness, an individual must be willing to laugh at their own mistakes. This allows someone not take themselves too seriously. If an individual looks at mistakes in a serious and negative light then that individual will not learn from their previous mistakes, since a mistake should be considered part of the learning and developing process,

Developing effective consciousness is a journey that is not always easy. Many times, we have to look at past events that upset us. It is very important not give up during this process. There are many support groups that are designed to help individuals on the path of self-development. A support group will listen and provide guidance and helpful advice. No one has to make the journey alone.
