Making the decision to leave your job for a business can be a difficult task for anyone to take when you have never done it before. There are countless potential avenues that you can go down and so many things that could happen. Let’s take a look at what you should consider.

Look at your current job and consider what obligations that you have to your business and also to personal relationship in that company. You may have non competes or non disclosures that you have to fulfill, but make sure that you have legal help. Second you need to make sure that you are not going to seriously burn bridges.

Next think about your family situation and what financial obligations you have to them for the next several months as you get your business going. Can you support them so that they have a roof over their head and food on the table or will it be difficult and too stressful for everyone.

Consider the business that you have ahead of you and the business plan that you put together. Each person needs to have a strong business plan where they can see how the product is created, how it is marketed to a target audience, who is that target audience, and how can you fulfill it for them. If you can’t see this then it will be difficult.

You have to make sure that you are funded whether by yourself or some type of venture capital that you can get from investors that are willing to support your business. You want to make sure that you have that in writing and that they will back you up or else you could be in trouble.

If you have business partners make sure they are on board. Look at their track record and see if they are going to provide value to your business or just become an annoyance that gets paid money you made.

Next I would consider your own personal feelings and what you want out of your business. You need to make sure that by leaving this job and starting a business that you are going to be happier and passionate about it. You will then have a requirement to your customers to provide them with value and that only happens if you are passionate about it.

Whether you leave your job or not go and get a business started today if you haven’t already. It is a great way to take your life into your own hands and prepare well for you future financial situation when you plan to retire.
