Spinal problems and back pain are the most common complaints around the world. A one hundred percent effective back pain cure has yet to be found but that does not mean that some easing of the discomfort cannot be found. The problem with pain relief medication is that it doesn’t help the cause of the problem, just merely makes it a little more bearable.
Long term medication with pain killers is something that should be supervised as other problems can occur because of their continued use.
The problem with the back is just how strong it is and at the same time how easily it can become damaged. Once spinal injury has occurred it can be a permanent condition, often caused by something as simple as bad posture.
The most common way to injure your back though, is by lifting badly. It is usually recognized immediately by a sharp pain at the base of the spine. Fortunately there are a number of natural back pain relief remedies that can help without reliance on prescription medication. Stretching the back is often the simplest method of relief. Stretching your back gently can relax your back muscles preventing them from becoming tense.
Another type of treatment uses reflexology to massage the feet. It is a very old natural therapy which helps to relieve many chronic ailments. Often, to compensate for our pain, the back muscles over-compensate. Reflexology can also help to improve the body’s blood circulation and relax muscles.
The Chinese medical art of acupuncture can also be used to help bring back pain relief, something which has only been recognized a short while in the West. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the theory that all people have this energy which flows through them called ‘chi’ or ‘qi’. Chi can become blocked but can be released by using thin needles inserted into various points on the body. Acupuncture can be used to treat almost all kinds of ailments including pain relief around the spine and studies made in acupuncture have provided results which are quite astounding.
The Chinese discipline of Tai Chi has also provided relief as it uses yoga-like principles. It is far easier and much slower, so there is less likelihood of further damage being caused. Tai Chi focuses on breathing techniques and is a great way to relax your back. Whilst it involves some stretching and breathing exercises, it is not too strenuous, which means that anyone, young or old, can take part in Tai Chi.
It would be a shame not to finish by remembering that exercise can provide back pain relief and that regular exercise is also one of the best preventative medicines available.
