The cards that we see today that are used in tarot card readings were originally made for a game called triumphs. They were designed to be used in this game by the elite society in 15th century Italy. The cards were not meant to become the divination tool that they have become.

You might be wondering where the idea that is currently held about tarot cards and the original use changed. That is something of a mystery and it seems as the cards were taken from culture to culture, there came to be a meaning given for each of the new additions to the traditional playing card deck. No one knows exactly where the meanings came from but there is some speculation.

The 18th century French were becoming increasingly fascinated by occultism. When the cards made their way to them in this century, they believed that the cards were the product of the Romany or gypsies, however, they were not the originators of the cards. The history of divination and the tarot cards seems to have come from this period of time.

Many people today believe that the cards have some sort of divination properties and there may well be some truth to this belief. The cards may not be telling the future but they are able to help people gain an insight into a known truth. When you lay the cards in a particular spread and concentrate on a problem that you are having, the meanings in the pictures will begin to help you see your way clear to the solution of your problem.

It is a tool that can make a situation clear and help you to see things in a simple way. The answer was right before you all along, you just needed a bit of help to see it more clearly.

When we dig deep enough into our own psyche we will often be able to find the answers that we are looking for. The cards and other methods of divination are just tools that will help us dig.

The mysterious cards can attribute some of their popularity and reputation on the mystery that surrounds them. When we cannot find the answers to our questions, we often attribute a mysterious and occult answer to the question. The tarot cards are most likely nothing more than something that has been saved from a past generation that is nothing more than a pleasant game, but because there are questions that we cannot answer about them they have taken on a whole new meaning.

When you collect these lovely cards, there is no doubt that they are quite lovely and will make a wonderful piece of art for your home. There is something to be said that the cards survived for all of these centuries when the game that they were created for is long forgotten.
