Your dominant feelings about yourself, any negative feelings regarding self-worth, serve to color your thoughts. And it is your thoughts which ultimately drive your actions. It is the actions you take which determine your life’s outcomes. So if your life isn’t quite panning out in the way you want it to, you need to spend some time thinking about whether low self-esteem has something to do with it.

Achieving your goals takes repeated action and you can’t give up too early. High self-esteem can give you the drive, determination, and personal power necessary to take these actions and be persistent until you achieve success.

If you continually criticize yourself then this will lower your self-esteem. If you have low self-esteem you will find it more difficult to take the necessary actions to achieve your goals. The link between thoughts and actions will either be a negative for you or a positive.

You must learn to think positively if you are to have any chance of conquering your self-doubt. Give yourself full credit for everything you’ve already achieved in your life - and don’t tell me you haven’t achieved anything, because I won’t believe you.

All of us have had some successes. You should make a list of your accomplishments and work out the action steps you took that enabled you to succeed. List the obstacles you had to overcome. Carrying out this task is a great way to build your confidence. Start a journal where you can write down your successes. This will be something you can refer back to when you need to give yourself some positive reinforcement.

One thing you should never forget is that there is a definite connection between your thoughts and actions. Your prime life’s objective from here on in should be to direct your thoughts into positive channels by consciously taking control of them. Whenever you become assailed by doubts, get out your journal for a positivity boost.

Negative thoughts are your enemy, don’t forget that. Every time you tell yourself ‘I can’t’ you immediately reduce your self-esteem and confidence and put another barrier in the way to achieving your goals. That’s why putting your ‘wins’ in a journal can be so beneficial - it gives you something tangible to help get you back on the right track when doubt begins to creep in.

Make it a habit to tell yourself ‘I can’. Confidence, optimism and motivation to take action are the result of positive thoughts. Positive thinking will give you the best chance of achieving your goals. Positive thinking will help drive away the fears and doubt that lead to procrastination which will keep you from accomplishing your goals.
