Posted by admin / Under Gardening ServicesGood morning gardeners! Here in Central Mississippi spring type weather will be here soon. I can feel the warmth at the other end of the tunnel! Highs for the next week will be in the 60s and 70s and I will be out in the garden and yard cleaning up. I will have around two or three weeks to get the garden area in shape before any plants get transplanted into the garden. Spring officially starts March 20. If you are just starting out gardening and are in need of advice or just encouragement please feel free to join in....

Kos idiocy of the day
Posted by admin / Under Gardening ServicesThe Daily Kos is trumpeting this as if it were Einstein explaining the theory of relativity: "As I discussed in my previous post, record-breaking snowstorms are not an indication that global warming is not occurring. In fact, we can expect there may be more heavy snowstorms in regions where it is cold enough to snow, due to the extra moisture global warming has added to the atmosphere -- an extra 4% since 1970. Snow is not the same as cold." Actually, the opposite is happening. There is less water in the air. That 4% figure is more IPCC Math. The...

Posted by admin / Under Gardening ServicesGood morning gardeners! Another winter storm is heading for the Mid Atlantic and North East coasts! All of you FReepers in its path stay safe and warm. And just wow another earthquake off the coast of Northern California near where Freeper tubebender gardens. Winter is still hanging around. The Earth is still shaking. And more news or rumors about there being a shortage of vegetable seeds. There may be problems with certain varieties of cucumbers and carrots but I do not see a generalized shortage.
Small is beautiful (and radical)
Posted by admin / Under Gardening ServicesSo if we go back to the two questions about what is radical and what is beautiful they come down to the same thingthe passion for quality food and sustainable systems that the new young farmers brought to American agriculture. There is no reason that large farms, whatever path they may have been on, cannot learn to meet those standards if they understand that it is not the scale of the farm but the attitude of the farmer that the public is interested in. I think if the large farmers used all their experience and natural advantages to try to...
Seed shortages could imperil home gardens
Posted by admin / Under Gardening ServicesDES MOINES, Iowa - Dreaming of biting into a garden-fresh cucumber sandwich this summer? Better order your seeds now. A poor growing season last year and increased orders from Europe could make it difficult for home gardeners to get seeds for the most popular cucumber variety and some vegetables this spring. Farmers, who usually grow different varieties than home gardeners, aren't likely to be affected.
